Watching some football
Apparently, some NFL game is happening over in Europe right now while I’m sitting down to do a little bit of blogging and watching some football. We had a breakfast burrito which was delicious and super spicy this morning. That burrito committed me to some treadmill time and now that my mischief has been managed, it’s time to just spend about half an hour writing. My big plan for the entire day is to just sit on the sofa and watch some football. We pretty much just get the games that are broadcast over-the-air (OTA) in Denver and for the most part that is good enough. Paying for the NFL package to access all the Sunday games just did not make sense. For the most part, the only games I would be trying to buy access to would be the Kansas City Chiefs games. After looking at the schedule only a handful of games would have been made viewable and I don’t care enough about watching every game this year to justify the purchase.
You really have to look at how fragmented the NFL broadcasting rights are these days. You have games several days a week and they are all over the place. Fans of a certain team will get most of the games locally if they happen to live in the teams broadcast area. A lot of people cheer for teams that are not local to them and that means that viewing all the games from that team has probably become cost prohibitive. Seriously, it would be a major commitment to watch all the games including accessing a ton of different streaming platforms. I keep thinking that at some point we will start to see consolidation of these services, but that may not happen. We watch the vast majority of the Colorado Avalanche games via the Altitude+ streaming platform. It is a totally different fan experience compared to the NFL. Hockey has a lot less viewers and the television rights are less lucrative than the NFL offerings. I’m a fan of the classic NFL model where people are able to watch their local team over-the-air which makes the league accessible and the games predictable to find and watch.
I’m just sitting here writing about watching football during the Fox NFL Sunday pregame coverage. That coverage actually starts at 0900 hours and today is leading up to the Giants vs. Bears game. Ouch, that is not really a very good matchup to watch. We have another game on CBS this morning that I’m hoping is a better offering. My general goal for my Sunday blogging efforts is to just sit down and relax my mind to write about whatever comes to the forefront of my attention. It’s just pure old school stream of consciousness type writing. For better or worse that remains my favorite type of writing effort. I like to just sit down and let the keyboard lead the way.
