That all capital SLOP is happening
Yesterday, I did spend some time thinking about independent writing. It’s important. We need it to flourish. Just as we need people to keep striving forward. The consumption of independent writing is an area where I do think we are going to face a type of Luddite content revolution where people are going to want to correctly and properly identify organic writing. Maybe that will be deemed Luddite 2.0 as a general revolution or some other name will get tagged to it. We called the opposition to junk email generally to the account of what is considered to be SPAM. That, however, is probably not the label that will get applied to the slop that gets created synthetically by models these days. It’s really a situation where you could get SPAM that is slop, and we may very well start seeing the slop get spelled out in all capitals like SLOP to have the same intention as what SPAM ended up being.
Both of those things were battles that never really were winnable. As long as people wake up in the morning and want to send out either of those things, it will probably happen. However, it is somewhat comforting to know that other people do have a proper disdain for it and wish they would stop doing it. Both SPAM and SLOP are probably surges that will one day be avoidable, but today and all of our foreseeable tomorrows are not that day. I’m still concerned that all-capital SLOP is happening. I actually think it is flooding the online marketplace of ideas and will potentially suppress the creation of new and original content from independent writing. It’s something I’m concerned about. The build-out of methods to slow SPAM took decades, and I’m afraid the same type of slow battle will be waged against SLOP as we move forward.
It may have been all the reflecting about independence yesterday that made me really focus in on the future battle of content flooding and what it means generally for society and our day to day existence.
