Revisiting Substack Notes
I’m trying to get into the Substack Notes feature. My efforts are a couple of years late on that feature, but I guess figuring it out now is better than just ignoring it. When you want to share out a single link or comment on something, then the Notes feature works out well enough. Earlier today, I shared a post I liked about NHL salary cap considerations using a note. It was not something that I would restack in Substack based on audience, but it was something I enjoyed reading and wanted to just share and comment on, making Notes the perfect forum for that missive. My guess is that if you get into the Substack app, then maybe the notes become a more vibrant part of the overall experience in the ecosystem. I’m going to just share things that I find of interest using the Notes feature and see where it takes me.
I had a gap in usage of the Notes feature from April 14, 2023, to June 9, 2025. I’m not sure I missed it at all during that usage gap. Sure, I knew that people were using it and that it was sort of like the quick posting feature within Substack.
On an unrelated note, I am going to have to start generating my thumbnails for Substack using a more traditional image size compared to the square thumbnail format. That is something that I’m actually changing up with this post. Apparently, 14:10 is the aspect ratio for the preview images on the posts. That obviously is not square in nature with a 1:1 ratio. Maybe I’ll go back and update the thumbnails for this series.
