Recapping a Tuesday
I spent some time listening to the Decoder podcast yesterday with Matt Mullenweg, which covered a lot of WordPress-related content in depth thanks to Nilay. My journey in blogging has involved a lot of WordPress installations. Before that, a few Movable Type installations definitely happened. However, my favorite blogging experience was with Microsoft FrontPage, but that eventually gave way when that product came to an end. I really did enjoy building and working in FrontPage, which is interesting then to be nostalgic about. You can check out this conversation memorialized on the The Verge website, which is a customized instance of WordPress here:
It’s kind of cool that they take the podcast and make a pretty intense website deployment of it with the media and a lot of text. This was one of those interviews where I think Nilay, with an extra 30 minutes, could have taken it much deeper. A few of the spots where a simple follow-up question would have yielded greater depth ended up getting ignored to move to the next topic. That happens sometimes when you don’t want to really antagonize the person being interviewed. However, make no mistake that Nilay is, in fact, without question the definitive technology interviewer right now. At the peak of his interview skills and with a forum that allows absolute editorial freedom, I’ll be curious to see what the future holds for Decoder and The Verge.
During roadtrips and each weekend I listen to both Decoder and the Vergecast and have for years. Listening to Nilay and Josh podcast years ago was a joyful time in the history of technology and something I really am apparently nostalgic about. You get to see a real journey for some content creators and that is always interesting.
