I’m not ready for MGM+
Yeah, you guessed it, I’m not ready for the MGM+ streaming subscription. I have been watching episodes of Stargate SG-1 via Amazon Prime Video and working my way through the extremely large backlog of episodes. Apparently, that adventure is going to come to an end in about 7 days, given that is when my free trial of the MGM+ streaming service will come to an end. I’m on season 9 episode 8 of SG-1, so I’ll probably be able to watch the entire series before the trial ends. That probably means that Stargate Atlantis may have to be watched by Blu-ray. I could have watched my physical media versions of Stargate SG-1 by standing and moving the discs in a rotation as the viewing progressed. That, however, oddly is not as rewarding as it once was, and I was more than happy to just let the streaming service handle the transition between episodes. That joyful reduction in labor may be coming to an end here shortly.
A lot of the content that I would have wanted to watch on Amazon Prime Video happens to be part of the MGM catalog. It will be interesting to see what happens here after the 7-day trial ends. We have worked really hard not to sign up for a ton of streaming services with monthly subscription costs. My big plan really was to only have one streaming service subscription cost at a time per month and just move between them on a regular basis. We elected to do some Amazon Prime Video recently, and that at the time included all the Stargate content, which was a pretty strong selling point. It has been a long time since I watched all the series, and I thought chewing through them again would be a fun adventure. That adventure was not supposed to include subscribing to a ton of different streaming services. I have enough Blu-ray discs to avoid having to pay for any streaming services. We could certainly go that direction and forgo streaming for physical media.
I don’t know if that is ultimately the best path forward. At this point, a single monthly streaming subscription is cheaper than going to a movie. It was a lot less fun of an experience, but it is a lot more than a single-use or single-experience adventure. Buying Blu-ray Discs creates a back catalog of content that I own and can watch at any time going forward. The streaming costs are just endless and don’t yield anything going forward.
