A solid month between posts
Yeah, the last post over here on the old functional weblog was from August 16. Things got real for a bit and my daily writing efforts were put on hold. A lot of my creative energy just got put into other efforts and the daily time I would normally have developed into putting several hundred words into a brand new word processing document. Writing and spending time with the blank page requires a certain amount of energy. Put simply I was just spending the energy in other places. Starting today I’m going to better organize my time and try to engage my focus within specific blocks of time.
My technology interest did peak during the recent Google announcements of this year's smartphones. My Google Pixel Pixel 9 Pro Fold smartphone has been working well enough. It was ordered back in August of 2024 and this year when the new Pixel 10 Pro Fold came out I looked at it, but I had no real need to upgrade. My current folding phone is probably just fine compared to the most recent folding phone. Just a few minutes ago, I did take a look at what it would cost to upgrade the phone. The upgrade was not compelling enough to get me to switch devices. The trade in value was interesting for my year old folding phone at about $630. That means the device lost more than half of its value in just one year.
My new daily plan involves writing down the 5 things that deserve a block of my attention each day. Being able to actually spend 5 dedicated blocks of attention on that list is certainly possible. It would be a better directed use of my day to day right now. I have been generally focused on just allowing a stream of consciousness to dominate my daily flow of activity. It was nice. It was a good exercise, but the time has come to refocus. Evidence of this change will be easy enough to observe. One of the telling factors will be the span between this post and the next one. We probably won’t see a solid month between posts again.
