A roadtrip with an audiobook
We had a lengthy car ride today from Kansas City back to Denver. During that undeniably westward journey, we listened to a good chunk of an audiobook. That seems to always help the time move a little bit quicker. Given the proximity to the 4th of July, it was no surprise that we just did not have enough fresh podcasts on tap for the 10-hour journey. Instead, we got to spend that time listening to a book by Patrick McGee about the history of outsourcing manufacturing specific to Apple, the company.
McGee, P. (2025). Apple in China: The capture of the world's greatest company. Scribner.
It was one of those books where I really wish it was narrated by the author instead of a professional book reader. It would have made the listening experience much better. My guess is that Patrick McGee will keep writing interesting books if this one is any indication of a future of focused storytelling. At the moment, the audiobook is 54% complete and the story is sort of languishing on some specific store details. It will take a few evenings for me to finish the 6 hours and 10 minutes that remain. I’ll provide some thoughts on the book after I finish listening to the rest of it.
