Windows Update will no longer refresh my main computer. Sadly enough the team over at Microsoft has decided that my current processor which is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7800X CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3504 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s) is no longer supported within Windows 11 updates. It had a pretty good run. TPM 2.0 is not available with this chipset so it has made Windows 11 give up on my Intel i7-7800X processor. I gave moving over to the Windows 11 Insider Preview channel a shot at getting updates to run under protest, but neither the recommended beta channel nor the dev channel allowed updates to flow. It appears that my last sets of updates were on November 23, 2024 as part of the KB5001716 update. That means it’s going to be time to start building a new computer and that is a daunting and somewhat expensive process these days.

I get the dreaded warning message, “This PC doesn’t currently meet Windows 11 system requirements. Here’s why: The PC must support TPM 2.0.”

This PC doesn’t currently meet Windows 11 system requirements. Here’s why: The PC must support TPM 2.0.

I’m now watching all sorts of YouTube videos about computer hardware. All sorts of videos. So many videos are being watched.

Earlier today I went ahead and moved the nelsx domain over to be a custom domain for my main Substack newsletter. That involved a couple of edits to the DNS record for the A and CNAME records which just took a couple of minutes to implement and about an hour to propagate. Overall the entire Substack has now moved over and it looks like all the checks passed and things are in the green going forward for that new custom domain to work. What does that mean exactly? It means that the folks over at Substack are now enforcing a configuration where the domain https://nelslindahl.substack.com/ now functionally redirects to https://www.nelsx.com/ which they consider as a new active custom domain. I had previously set up, but not utilized a Ghost account using that domain. It turns out that I’m going to stay on Substack for the foreseeable future and it just made sense to go ahead and move to a custom domain.

That means I have a publishing pattern where weekly notes will go out on The Lindahl Letter publication domain now housed at https://www.nelsx.com/ powered by Substack and my regular weblog posting will happen here on my primary domain which is powered under the hood by WordPress. Content of a more meaningful nature will be packaged into manuscripts and published that way as collections or complete works.
