Nels Lindahl — Functional Journal

A weblog created by Dr. Nels Lindahl featuring writings and thoughts…

20250101

Last year. It seems like so long ago. It was like 6 hours. Snow did arrive in Denver at some point last night. That always makes it feel colder. Toward the end of the year I was thinking about how quantum teleportation might replace the miles and miles of under sea cables that are currently the intercontinental backbone of the internet. We will see what happens when they scale quantum teleportation data communication technology. The thing that will tell me the technology has become mainstream will be the stories about under sea cables being pulled back up. That is what I ended the year thinking about and that is not the worst way to end a year.

It was nice to be able to watch the entire Colorado Avalanche game on Altitude+ at a reasonable time last night. Hockey is not a sport that occurs in the afternoon for the most part. A lot of hockey happens after my bedtime. The season has really gone from being interesting to exciting with the goaltending changes and the team playing more like the fun Avalanche team of a couple years ago.

I started watching some of the Learn WordPress videos from the Beginner WordPress Designer series [1]. It’s really a series of webpages with embedded YouTube videos that show you how to utilize WordPress as a designer. This series of insightful videos would have been more useful to watch before I switched over to the Twenty Twenty-Five WordPress theme. I ended up just randomly searching YouTube for walkthroughs on how to do the things I wanted to change about the base theme implementation. A lot of that was about the padding, margins, and default spacing choices that had been made. I removed a lot of spacing from the default theme to make it feel more like something I would like to read. It’s not perfect, but I’m ok with how it looks right now.

I spent some time converting the 2023 weblog posts from private to public while making sure to check the newsletter option and disable email during the conversion.
