A weblog created by Dr. Nels Lindahl featuring writings and thoughts…

A big under the hood change happened yesterday here at the weblog. I made some changes to the permalink structure here. I deprecated the inclusion of the category to just shorten all the links. Now the custom structure is just the post name following the domain. It’s simplified and now live. Unfortunately, making this change to the permalink structure did break all the underlying links to 43 posts. This was a needed change and it is better to do it now before unlocking the 2,406 private posts. Search engines only index the public posts so they will have to map the new posts and experience errors on the previous links. We will see what happens with the search engine mappings over the next few days. Overall this type of change would be problematic for a larger online content purveyor, but I’m okay with changing all the links for my weblog.

I’m still toying with releasing some of the older content again. That is something I seem to be a little more focused on lately than since the content got effectively archived. This does represent the third day of basic daily blogging at the start of the day. I’m sitting down and trying to write a page of prose at the start of the day to just sort of get things running properly. This is a return to my primary routine for maximizing productivity. Right at the start of the day my focus and energy pretty easily translates into a pure stream of conscious style writing. It’s that 30 minutes window before things start to really get going and I can complete complex tasks. It’s that time of the day when those espresso shots have happened, but are not effective.

Apparently at some point in the last year or so I set up the weblog to have a paid newsletter option. It has a monthly and yearly option. Nobody uses either of those options. I probably need to do some cleanup within that structure. The easy path forward would be to just remove the payment method and allow people to sign up for the weblog to be delivered as an email which is effectively a newsletter. We will see what ends up happening on that front today. I’m going to spend some time watching the Kansas City Chiefs play football and thinking about what direction to take on the whole subscription front.

During the course of updating this post today it has somehow gotten a dash version two added to the end of it. I tried to go back in and manually reset the post link to remove that version dash. Nothing I did seemed to help fix it. No other post or asset is using that name so I don’t know why the system logic kicked in for adding a version. It’s a true weblog mystery.

Live blogging used to happen on actual blogs before the micro publishing social networks took over and people could just share in real time within that network. It probably had more possible adventure as the audience is generally larger within those networks. Blogs became islands of thought that were just not going to last. Things changed. It happens. For the most part that great social network balancing is still playing out as new players are gaining momentum.
