Returning to the daily pattern of blogging seems like something from a long time ago. I’m going to just keep writing and believing in science. Maybe a bit of daily blogging will help me focus more on the things that bring me the most joy on a daily basis. For a long time it was pretty easy to just share small missives on the world’s most popular microblogging site in 140 characters or less. Reality then got torn asunder and things in the world of microblogging just got worse then at some point tipped over into a constant state of being spilled on a very dirty ground. That dirty part cannot really be oversold at this point. Some people stayed and a lot of people moved to other social networks. That great sorting is underway right now. That consideration of the great sorting out is a part of what is dominating the forefront of my thoughts right now.
Maybe that is enough to start the day. It’s a Friday and I have the entire day off which is pretty nice really. A three day weekend of fun and adventure all focused around not really having to go anywhere or do anything. My day started out with a couple shots of espresso. That was of course delightful. I’m still a big fan of the Starbucks espresso blend of coffee grounds. During the course of my espresso consumption I have tried maybe 30 different blends and I keep going back to the blend Starbucks selected for espresso. We just blogged about coffee and that seems to be at the heart of blogging. It’s the creation of prose without one of those fancy large language models. Interestingly enough a lot of the models were trained on huge amounts of online content that could very well have been a part of the blogging journey.
My writing style is very well defined and has formed over the course of years. Millions of words have been created. That took me a lot of time and sadly could have been generated by ChatGPT in about a day of prompting. My firm belief is that my insights are more interesting, concentrated, and focused on my perspective. The depth and breadth of my knowledge is way smaller than some of these language models. It’s like orders of magnitude smaller. I may be an expert in several areas of academic research. It will always be a small slice of the world. Generally the process of gaining expertise requires focusing on something. Inherent within that act of focusing scope is defined. Some of these models have billions of parameters which happen to be way larger than I’m going to consider even at my most focused moment of brilliance.
We have now blogged today. It has happened. A page of content has been created in a Google Doc and then formatted into the post format required by WordPress.
